Beauty 101

Tips from the beautician: in order to prevent dehydration in the office and while you sleep at night, keep a full cup of water by your side. The water in the cup will be drained instead of the water in your skin. Also, no water should be taken 1 hour prior to sleeping. Else eye area will retain water and eyebags will be more swollen. =(

The Rothschild

Today's historical family of interest is: The Rothschilds, a banking family of German-Jewish regarded as nobility, having been conferred royal titles in Austria and Great Britain during the 1800s. Unlike The Vanderbilts I was reading about yesteryday, The Rothchilds still hold their fortunes and the exact amount of their total wealth is unknown as the information is kept private. However, conservative estimates put it at US$ 5 trillion dollars. Tomorrows family of interest: maybe the Du Ponts.

Tea Time

Three interns caught eating snake at the wang cafe downstairs. This was on 23rd and we're missing one lovely nicole who flew off to aus for the hols. A rare tea time treat for us =)

Sigh

A boring day in the office because i can't resolve anything because of the rms and every one being on leave. My time was spent reading randomly looking at benefit, elf and ae in the morning and reading about jellyfish and the vanderbilt family in the afternoon. Argh. Frustrates

System Error

As I slowly get into the groove of being a working individual, I realize that I tend to get fixated on the little details and miss out on the big picture. In my job, which I just started 3 months ago... I was so concerned with getting the work done that I completely forgot that I'm supposed to Analyze, not just do. I'm paid to think.

And somewhere along the way, I realized that the Singapore education syllabus missed an important subject. They forgot to teach you how to think.. From primary to secondary school and even on to junior college, we are simply trained to answer the questions that are going to come out in exam papers. Like robots on clockwork, there are 2 SAs and 2 CAs in an academic year.

And then when you get to university, it's basically the same again. You go for lectures do the tutorials and then get notes from seniors and do the past year papers if available. Fair enough there are modules that require you to think more than others but then that probably amounts to 10% of all the modules you would take and they would typically be packed into your last semester as a student.

So now, 3 months into my working life, I have to start learning how to think. Something my 18 years of education did not teach me.

Datefusion

The problem with working in an international bank is date formatting. The international intranet tools we use has a mm/dd/yy format, but some of the tools that are in our system itself use dd/mm/yy. It really is a little confusing. And we all know how dangerous it is to get dates wrong, cos if it is, clients can get free money! Argh, to have to bother about small details like that.

As the week goes by

Normally when i reach work I take out some stuff from my bag like my hp, staff pass and the jacket for the day, place the bag in the big bottom drawer, start my system and maybe refill my thermal pot. After my system starts I check emails and then decide what I should work on for the day, as I currently have 5 files on hand.

As a habit I will read some news first, usually on channelnewsasia as sites like wallstreetjournal likes to be anal and lock many articles. So I cant be bothered.

I noticed then at the start of the week, I will usually read more serious stuff, all the business news, world news etc, I wont even go near the entertainment section. But as the week progresses, usually around Thursday I feel like taking a break and I would progress to reading entertainment stuff like Coco Lee wants to migrate to Singapore. Stuff like that.

Also nearer the end of the week, should I have a paper on hand, I will actually take 5 - 10 mins to flip through Today either in the morning or just after lunch, and on Fridays I will really zone out, like stare at the financials and zone out.

So thats what my week is like.

Me @ the F1

at the suite during the race, taken by the club 21 photog. Oh mah gad! I'm a celebrity, loving the paparazzi, haha!

On the track after the race, hair flat from sweating walking around. so unglam

Marshmallows @ a concert

Marshmallows were going for a concert! William So + Ronald Cheng

This is what Mr Marshmallow wore

and this is what Ms Marshmallow wore!

During the concert we sat in front of a bunch of William So's fans, lucky they were not like the Ronald fans @ hong kong's concert (they screamed throughout the whole concert). It was pretty fun, the stars walked around alot and we got to shake Ronald's hand! One girl sitting somewhere behind us saw another girl get to shake William's hand and she was squealing in jealousy. So funny.

Anyway, think i look terrible here but babes looks really good. It was a good weekend =)

Dieting

Ever since I've started work, I have been sitting on my ass. Literally, because my job doesn't require me to move around alot. It also doesnt help that my bus home is right next to my work place, cutting down all my walking. When I worked @ recruit express last year, I'd walk from ngee ann to lido to get a bus home.

So well, i continue like this for about a month, then i realized that my clothes got tighter, and i looked kind of fatter. I got really sad and decided to limit my intake. My eating style is like this: because I get hungry fast, I
usually eat until I'm really full, then i'll be satisfied. And I'm someone who reaaly super super loves her carbos. My diet is basically cutting down on my carb intake, god its so painful for me. It has been going well, karl think that i lost weight too. Was @ the doctor's today, and got my weight. I'm 44.8kg!! Even Dr Lee said I look skinnier. Yippee !

However, its @ times like this, in the middle of the night, when i'm hungry
I tend to open the fridge and peep, if there is nothing interesting, I will eat my fave plain white bread, gardenia. So much cravs

Tonights damage: half a bakers inn black sesame mooncake and 3 slices of white gardenia.

F1 loots!

The F1 ticket was provided by club21 as a gift for a family friend who couldnt attend, so i took it! And when i arrived...they had gift bags! I peeped inside and saw Khiels!!! I swiped an extra one from the empty seat next to me and passed to marv. And it was a very elegant sky suite with a buffet dinner set up with drinks/wine/champagne and a full service wait staff outsourced from pan pacific. Talk about neat!

Things on my mind

Well last night there was a work drinking function with the trade, rm and my dept. Along with the head of SEA for corporate transaction group. drinks on the bank's bill. and some of the snr bankers were really going at it. Which leads me to think
Better learn how to be a good drunk either that or a really good drinker but then you have to be a drunk many times first.

the ugliest part of singaporean weddings

so yesterday i was a bridesmaid @ my gf's wedding, it was a full day thing. we were manning the reception before the dinner started and well people started arriving. And the first thing people ask, some even before giving their well wishes to the wedding couple, is "Got carpark coupon?", i.e. carpark redemption tickets.

I really think that is very ugly and graceless.

to give this some perspective, yesterday was a public holiday, which means that carpark charges were per entry. so about S$3?

days of the week

so work is on a 5day week basis, everytime it reaches wednesday i get very relieved, cos i only have to think of what to wear for one more day, after that its casual friday. running out of office clothes lar. i'm at expert at mix and match now, i even tried wearing ribbed tank tops to work, cos i got nothing to wear! maybe i should go for a wardrobe clearance flea market sale, but then i love all my clothes so much! how now brown cow...

Why can't i just add a smiley face

So work email has many unspoken rules, golden etiquette and what nots. Drafting it really gives me a mini headache.

I want to sound polite and nice yet not so cheerful that i irk some grumps or sound like a kid.

If my words are phrased too politely i may come off sounding like a cold bitch. No matter how i put it then i look at it, it still sounds bitchy to me. Or sometimes i think how i phrase it makes me sound like someone's boss. For example, in email i could type.

Hi John Doe,

I would appreciate if you could get me a copy of ABC company's financials. Thanks!

Regards,
Debby

I feel like i sound like that person's cold bitchy boss saying that in a authoritarian tone.

Now if i could just add a smiley face at the end of it all it will sound so much more cheery to the recipient and probably closer to how i actually speak.

Nobody ever told that u had to worry about such inconsequential things when u start working, or am i just a special case of a worry wart with an over-active imagination?

Damn it this feels too right , the one we all dream of (Nickelback: Gotta Be Somebody)

This time I wonder what it feels like
To find the one in this life
The one we all dream of
But dreams just aren't enough
So I´ll be waiting for the real thing.
I'll know it by the feeling.
The moment when we´re meeting
will play out like a scene straight off the silver screen
So I`ll be holdin’ my own breath
Right up to the end
Until that moment when
I find the one that I'll spend forever with

*(`Cause nobody wants to be the last one there.
'Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares.
Someone to love with my life in their hands.
There`s gotta be somebody for me like that.)

Repeat *

Tonight, out on the street out in the moonlight
And dammit this feels too right
It´s just like Déjà Vu
Me standin’ here with you
So I´ll be holdin`my own breath
Could this be the end?
Is it that moment when
I find the one that I'll spend forever with?

‘Cause nobody wants to be the last one there
'Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares.
Someone to love with my life in their hands.
There´s gotta be somebody for me like that.

Repeat *

You can´t give up!
Lookin´ for that diamond in the rough
You never know but when it shows up
Make sure you´re holdin` on
‘Cause it could be the one, the one you´re waiting on

‘Cause nobody wants to be the last one there.
And everyone wants to feel like someone cares.
Someone to love with my life in their hands.
There has gotta be somebody for me

Nobody wants to do it on their own
And everyone wants to know they´re not alone.
Is there somebody else that feels the same somewhere?
There`s gotta be somebody for me out there.

Nobody wants to be the last one there
'Cause everyone wants to feel like someone cares.
Is there somebody else that feels the same somewhere?
There has gotta be somebody for me out there.

A day at the museum

...all by my lonesome. And since the museum is just across the river from raffles place, i decided to meetup with Mr Phaan for lunch. He was all, dont hold my hand here ok. And of course i had to try and make him uncomfortable, ahaha it was hilarious.
Brought dads cam out for some fun.

Tall buildings, while waiting for Mr Phaan
A cloudless day. I like the reflection of the clouds in Republic plaza, and you can see the rays of sunlight just peeking out from under the clouds on the right.

Here is Mr Phaan himself. eyes all screwed up in the sun.

The river

Nail of the week/next 4 days or so
Chanel Cosmic Violine

Cavenagh bridge in silhouette, almost

So the destination that day, was the Asian Civilisations Museum

for this exhibit. Free entry for Nus students , what do you know! And i thought it was half price.

Outfit for the day.

The exhibit was not that big, but it had interesting things to see. Mom said that even if you go to the forbidden city in Beijing, you see mostly empty rooms without any stuff in it. Still i would like to go there to visit and do touristy shit.

Martini Honeys

Our regular Wei She Me Nights on wednesdays made a special appearance on Sunday for Allie's burfday. We went to Sentosa (for which i was very late....) cycled for a little while got all sweaty and stuff then took a shower in our bikinis and went for dinner at this nice little place called Trapizza or something...had pizza and pasta, the pasta was really good. The tomato flavour was great, cant remember the name though. We ordered 2nd helpings all round which it turned out we couldnt finish. Had bubbly too! Yay!

took some pictures which look very 'Campish'

Overall we had lots of fun and it made us nostalgic about primary 5 Camp Christine...lol! Felt like we were on holiday too!

Anyway this was the friday before and we went down to butter All in something blue to celebrate Emmies birthday! Drinks all round and lots of people but I had to leave early cos i wasnt feeling too well...

Marshmallows update

Just a quick update on what we've been doing... It was Karl's birthday and we went for hotpot buffet before going over to esplanade to catch Cats the musical. We had a fun night overall :)

This was a sunday and we're on the way to Karl's place so that he can send me to Sentosa to meet the girls for our Sentosa Day out

the day before we went to check out the new Tampines 1 mall with SG's first Uniqlo, thought the queue to enter would be super long but it was quite short so we went to take a look

and bumped into Jara and her guy. Anyway Uniqlo is nothing much but some of the basics are quite resonably priced. Jeans were 49.90 on opening week but i didnt get anything.

Late Night Alumni - The Rest of You

Another very nice chill out song.

Late Night Alumni - The Rest of You

You say love has given up
Yet here's my heart, still filling up
Hoping that you will follow
Poetry inside my head
Thoughts sublime that must be said
Here am I, explaining why I care.

Still feel the warmth of you
Can't get enough of you
Still think the world of you
Still want the rest of you
Still feel the best if yet to come

In the heart where love can grow
Takes to time for it to show
But sometimes we just don't realize
Look into my eyes and see
A simple truth you..ll find in me
Here am I, explaining why..

Still feel the warmth of you
Can't get enough of you
Still think the world of you
Still want the rest of you
Still feel the best if yet to come

New hair

Well....sort of. My hair color was previously the color of....something like dried grass, the red that i dyed in july had already faded to brown and it was fading from brown. it looked terrible, so i decided to go jet black. i have been itching to dye my hair that color for some time now. Also, i told my hairdresser to prep my fringe to go into an eventual side parted look again, sick of this china doll hair already. time for a change.

Anyway, on a side note, this was our homey, very fun and romantic valentines dinner, the pasta on the side was made by me and very delicious according to my sister and my maid, who were my 'romantic atmosphere creative directors', they were so excited about putting up this intimate setting in the little corner of my place...

full, after the dinner. I made a little too much, so there was a bit of leftover..

Us. The plan was he would take me out for a good dinner the next weekend. =) beat the crowds yo. hate crowds

Fr3b.com

I actually heard about this website a really long time ago, but was never really bothered to go check it out. Finally one day, my curiosity won the battle and so I went to take a look. Here is the result:

All free! Quite happy. I got 2 sachets of Cure Natural Aqua Gel, 1 sachet of Vichy Normaderm Anti Imperfections moisturizer and a 120ml bottle of my lens solution. All I have to do is pay for postage, the lens solution is so big you cant even hand carry on board a plane! ahaha. Anyway i really went because i saw the cure natural aqua gel in watsons and i wanted to give it a try to see exactly what it was and if it was worth it or not. Damn happy I got the big bottle of lens solution man, just nice for Mr P's place.

Some of the items arent that worth it to pay shipping for, like just one sachet of product, but if you choose selectively, you really get some great items. If i had signed up earlier, i might have been able to get the Hex hair wax for men that is the full retail size. Argh! Its now out of stock, for all the types. Sigh

But I havent tested the Vichy sample, so i havent done the survey and review for that, which means i cant check out another batch of items. Most of the items are, no doubt, for women, but there are also products for Men like the hair wax, Nugeno and Nivea men's skincare, not that much tho. Women, on the other hand get all sorts of things man, shampoo, cleanser, BB Creams, foundation, even pads and tampons.

This is how it works:

Step 1: You sign up, get some points, enough for 3 items to be exact.
Step 2: Check out, then pay for shipping and wait for Mr Postman to deliver your items
Step 3: Once you have gotten your items test them, review, fill in the product related survey and viola! You now have enough points to check out the next batch of 3 items.

Another way to get more points to check out more than 4 items each time is to refer people to join. So! Pls support! I wanna get more free items, and i know you want free items too! Link is picture below.

Please. Although the items are free, remember to check for ingredients that you are allergic to before you try the items. Try at risk of your skin. Oh, they also have toothpaste. So random.

Priscilla Ahn - Dream

This is a song i heard in Bride Wars, i just love it. Her voice is beautiful.

Priscilla Ahn - Dream

I was a little girl alone in my little world who dreamed of a little home for me.
I played pretend between the trees, and fed my houseguests bark and leaves, and laughed in my pretty bed of green.

I had a dream
That I could fly from the highest swing.
I had a dream.

Long walks in the dark through woods grown behind the park, I asked God who I'm supposed to be.
The stars smiled down on me, God answered in silent reverie. I said a prayer and fell asleep.

I had a dream
That I could fly from the highest tree.
I had a dream.

Now I'm old and feeling grey. I don't know what's left to say about this life I'm willing to leave.
I lived it full and I lived it well, there's many tales I've lived to tell. I'm ready now, I'm ready now, I'm ready now to fly from the highest wing.

I had a dream
