A Random Saturday

Well since my sis is not around this weekend, we decided to stay over at my place then see what is our plan the nxt day. We woke up, walked via the park connector (back way) to whampoa for breakky (my fav chee cheong fun). Ever since our little stay at Hotel RE we seem to like taking walks out to explore here and there. Done with breakfast, we decided to take the main road route to go home. So on the way to the main road we passed by this coffee shop where some tv people were filming, we stopped for like 5 mins to watch the actors and there was this old uncle sitting on a basket nearby. Then someone shouted his name and he went like, i'm here!! Then i realised its one of those old famous uncles and karl said he's just sitting there like some kopitiam uncle and we didnt even realize its him. haha.

Anyway, we stayed at home karl was doing some work and I was doing some editing for my writeup and we decided to take a break and go out for some snack/tea time. Started getting ready and thinking of what to eat, then i thought of it! I recently found out karl loves egg tarts, so I decided to bring him to another famous egg tart shop!! This one is known as Liang Chen Mei Dian, a small little pastry shop selling hk pastries in chinatown. I got to the counter, which full of people and asked for 20 egg tarts, and then I saw a little sign in the corner which says all pastries @ 70c after 6pm. It was 6.30!! (egg tarts u.p. 90c) haha!

*PS: If anyone is interested, its at 18 Sago St, just dont go around now cos traffic is a nightmare what with cny around the corner.

So the cny bazaar thingy is on Sago St itself as well. I go my egg tarts and was gonna find karl who is waiting in the car, then I walked past the back of this stall with tons of big carton boxes with the words 太阳饼, man! I rushed to the front to check it out! One of my friends @ work, vanessa, gave me a few of that her mom bought for her, super yummy! 台湾土产!! It's like 老婆饼, just that the filling is not winter melon paste, its honey paste! Loves it. <3>

After which we headed to Tampines using the GPS to pick kei up at Temasek Polytechnic. Poor thing has a project due on Monday morning. So her weekend is pretty much burnt up with project discussions and stuff. Went to Bedok Interchange for the yummy curry chicken noodle then off home we go!

Anyway, the weekend is not over yet! Looking forward to more R&R before another hectic work week starts. =)

Salon

I realised that overtime u go to the salon, they will always say that ur hair is dry. Even if u feel that ur hair is Ok. Then they will ask you if you use any serum. Its not in their interest to tell you that your hair is in good condition yo. (-_-)

Red star

A weekend at one of the most traditional restaurants in singapore with the best egg tarts and chee cheong fun. Yummy!

Nostalgia

Today i had a dental appt which was at boon lay. On the way there and home i would pass by dover. My old stomping grounds. Makes my miss those poly days. So carefree but broke. I take comfort in the fact that i give up that i'm earning but who am i kidding. I'm still broke! Oh well.

Beauty 101

Tips from the beautician: in order to prevent dehydration in the office and while you sleep at night, keep a full cup of water by your side. The water in the cup will be drained instead of the water in your skin. Also, no water should be taken 1 hour prior to sleeping. Else eye area will retain water and eyebags will be more swollen. =(

The Rothschild

Today's historical family of interest is: The Rothschilds, a banking family of German-Jewish regarded as nobility, having been conferred royal titles in Austria and Great Britain during the 1800s. Unlike The Vanderbilts I was reading about yesteryday, The Rothchilds still hold their fortunes and the exact amount of their total wealth is unknown as the information is kept private. However, conservative estimates put it at US$ 5 trillion dollars. Tomorrows family of interest: maybe the Du Ponts.

Tea Time

Three interns caught eating snake at the wang cafe downstairs. This was on 23rd and we're missing one lovely nicole who flew off to aus for the hols. A rare tea time treat for us =)

Sigh

A boring day in the office because i can't resolve anything because of the rms and every one being on leave. My time was spent reading randomly looking at benefit, elf and ae in the morning and reading about jellyfish and the vanderbilt family in the afternoon. Argh. Frustrates

System Error

As I slowly get into the groove of being a working individual, I realize that I tend to get fixated on the little details and miss out on the big picture. In my job, which I just started 3 months ago... I was so concerned with getting the work done that I completely forgot that I'm supposed to Analyze, not just do. I'm paid to think.

And somewhere along the way, I realized that the Singapore education syllabus missed an important subject. They forgot to teach you how to think.. From primary to secondary school and even on to junior college, we are simply trained to answer the questions that are going to come out in exam papers. Like robots on clockwork, there are 2 SAs and 2 CAs in an academic year.

And then when you get to university, it's basically the same again. You go for lectures do the tutorials and then get notes from seniors and do the past year papers if available. Fair enough there are modules that require you to think more than others but then that probably amounts to 10% of all the modules you would take and they would typically be packed into your last semester as a student.

So now, 3 months into my working life, I have to start learning how to think. Something my 18 years of education did not teach me.

Datefusion

The problem with working in an international bank is date formatting. The international intranet tools we use has a mm/dd/yy format, but some of the tools that are in our system itself use dd/mm/yy. It really is a little confusing. And we all know how dangerous it is to get dates wrong, cos if it is, clients can get free money! Argh, to have to bother about small details like that.

As the week goes by

Normally when i reach work I take out some stuff from my bag like my hp, staff pass and the jacket for the day, place the bag in the big bottom drawer, start my system and maybe refill my thermal pot. After my system starts I check emails and then decide what I should work on for the day, as I currently have 5 files on hand.

As a habit I will read some news first, usually on channelnewsasia as sites like wallstreetjournal likes to be anal and lock many articles. So I cant be bothered.

I noticed then at the start of the week, I will usually read more serious stuff, all the business news, world news etc, I wont even go near the entertainment section. But as the week progresses, usually around Thursday I feel like taking a break and I would progress to reading entertainment stuff like Coco Lee wants to migrate to Singapore. Stuff like that.

Also nearer the end of the week, should I have a paper on hand, I will actually take 5 - 10 mins to flip through Today either in the morning or just after lunch, and on Fridays I will really zone out, like stare at the financials and zone out.

So thats what my week is like.

Me @ the F1

at the suite during the race, taken by the club 21 photog. Oh mah gad! I'm a celebrity, loving the paparazzi, haha!

On the track after the race, hair flat from sweating walking around. so unglam

Marshmallows @ a concert

Marshmallows were going for a concert! William So + Ronald Cheng

This is what Mr Marshmallow wore

and this is what Ms Marshmallow wore!

During the concert we sat in front of a bunch of William So's fans, lucky they were not like the Ronald fans @ hong kong's concert (they screamed throughout the whole concert). It was pretty fun, the stars walked around alot and we got to shake Ronald's hand! One girl sitting somewhere behind us saw another girl get to shake William's hand and she was squealing in jealousy. So funny.

Anyway, think i look terrible here but babes looks really good. It was a good weekend =)

Dieting

Ever since I've started work, I have been sitting on my ass. Literally, because my job doesn't require me to move around alot. It also doesnt help that my bus home is right next to my work place, cutting down all my walking. When I worked @ recruit express last year, I'd walk from ngee ann to lido to get a bus home.

So well, i continue like this for about a month, then i realized that my clothes got tighter, and i looked kind of fatter. I got really sad and decided to limit my intake. My eating style is like this: because I get hungry fast, I
usually eat until I'm really full, then i'll be satisfied. And I'm someone who reaaly super super loves her carbos. My diet is basically cutting down on my carb intake, god its so painful for me. It has been going well, karl think that i lost weight too. Was @ the doctor's today, and got my weight. I'm 44.8kg!! Even Dr Lee said I look skinnier. Yippee !

However, its @ times like this, in the middle of the night, when i'm hungry
I tend to open the fridge and peep, if there is nothing interesting, I will eat my fave plain white bread, gardenia. So much cravs

Tonights damage: half a bakers inn black sesame mooncake and 3 slices of white gardenia.

F1 loots!

The F1 ticket was provided by club21 as a gift for a family friend who couldnt attend, so i took it! And when i arrived...they had gift bags! I peeped inside and saw Khiels!!! I swiped an extra one from the empty seat next to me and passed to marv. And it was a very elegant sky suite with a buffet dinner set up with drinks/wine/champagne and a full service wait staff outsourced from pan pacific. Talk about neat!
